First Gulf Women in GI Conference

The inaugural Women in Gastroenterology Conference, organized by the ELEGANCE Society of Gastroenterologists in the GCC, aimed at fostering growth and communication within the digestive system field in the Middle East, took place in Muscat, Oman, from February 16-17, 2024. Themed “Empowering Innovations in Women’s Gastroenterology Health,” this historic event marked the first annual summit in the GCC, spotlighting advancements and breakthroughs in gastroenterology and particularly highlighting female professionals in the field.

Hosted by the ELEGANCE Society, the conference provided a platform for numerous female gastroenterologists to exchange knowledge and insights, showcasing developments in treatments, techniques, and management strategies for gastrointestinal and liver-related issues through collaborative workshops and discussions among esteemed doctors, experts, practitioners, and researchers. Addressing prevalent challenges faced by female doctors in the Middle East, the event fostered meaningful dialogue and practical solutions.

Dr. Majidah Bukhari, President of the association and Assistant Professor at the University of Sharjah, and consultant gastroenterologist at Dr. Suliman Alhabib Hospital, Dubai along with her Vice-Presidents Dr. Sarah Al Ghamdi, Assistant Professor & consultant gastroenterologist in King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and Dr. Jenan Ghaith,Assistant Professor and consultant gastroenterologist in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, emphasized the pivotal role of such conferences in addressing clinical and practical dilemmas, advocating for ongoing education, training, and networking opportunities to elevate healthcare standards and leave a lasting impact in the field.

Supported by key medical companies such as Fujifilm, Boston Scientific, and Micro-Tech, the conference underscored a collaborative effort to advance gastroenterology and empower professionals across the region.
